#HousingDay 2014

12th November 2014 marks the return of #HousingDay, an annual event aimed at increasing the profile of the work done by those in the Housing sector.
In 2013, #HousingDay trended on Twitter with more than 1,000 tweets every hour. This year aims to be bigger than ever before and here at Jobsgopublic we will be giving it our full support, both in the build-up and on the day itself.
We want to help to get as many employers, employees and residents involved, sharing stories and raising awareness of the crucial work that is being done in the Housing sector.
Unfortunately, there is often very little recognition and understanding of the work carried out by those in the housing sector, despite the fact that they are helping some of society’s most vulnerable people. Housing associations are responsible for ensuring that those most in need are provided with suitable accommodation and that their properties are properly maintained. This includes assessing the need of those applying for housing, carrying out inspections and dealing with anti-social behaviour. Due to a severe lack of awareness it can be a largely thankless and under-appreciated job and one of the aims of #HousingDay is to change this.
In the build-up to the big day we are getting in touch with those working in the sector in an effort to get them to share their stories and experiences. Throughout the day on 12th November we will be joining the tweet-a-thon, we will have dedicated blogs to put a spotlight on the profession and are looking to encourage others to get in touch and share their stories.
If you currently work in Housing or have had any experiences living or working in social housing then we would love to hear from you and help you share your experiences in order to raise the profile of the work that is being done. If you have any questions about the work that is done then we would be more than happy to help you get them answered.
Some of the themes we are looking to follow throughout #HousingDay are:
• I love working in Housing because…
• How to get into working in Housing.
• The day in the life of a Housing Officer/Estate Inspector etc
• My experiences of social housing
To tell us your story or share your experiences email us at blog@jobsgopublic.com or tweet us at @JGPAdvice.
Join us on 12th November as we celebrate the work being done across the country and do what we can to raise awareness.
