2016 Round Up
Sam Wilson, The 14th of December, 2016

Well, crikey! 2017 will be upon us before we know it.

Before we say goodbye to 2016, we thought we’d take a moment to share with you some of our highlights of the year.

It’s difficult to know where to start but it’s a source of great excitement here that we were recently awarded a place on the ESPO (Eastern Shires Purchasing Organisation) framework. This has allowed us to significantly widen our reach for our e-recruitment solutions, including our award-winning microsites, ATS and Talent Pool.

As the places on the framework are only awarded every four years and are highly competitive, we’re thrilled to have been selected.

If you would like to find how you can access our services through ESPO, please contact a member of our team today.

One of our favourite things at Jobsgopublic is working on large-scale campaigns as it allows all of our teams to work closely together and fully utilise our creative skills!

We’ve been part of some fantastic campaigns this year. We took on a challenging brief for Bath and North East Somerset Council to help them recruit to their Highways and Traffic service, achieving some great results. Key campaigns this year have also included our work with Cambridgeshire and Thurrock councils, both looking to recruit to a range of key positions.

We were also part of the ‘Come Back to Social Work’ project in partnership with the LGA, DH and DfE, tackling a nationwide shortage of experienced social workers.

As if that wasn’t enough to keep us busy, we’ve refreshed and redeveloped several of our longstanding projects this year. Our longest standing careers site (birminghamsocialcarejobs.com) has continued to develop and we also relaunched the fantastic Medway Social Care site. In March we launched a redesign of the Pupillage Gateway, a platform for trainee barrister recruitment which we provide for the Bar Council.

Take a look at our campaign and design work by visiting our design site.

Year on year, SmartSearch continues to provide an affordable and highly effective resourcing service for senior, executive and hard-to-fill roles. In 2016, we worked on some great campaigns. Some key appointments made through SmartSearch this year include:

• Head of Libraries – Southwark Council
• Assistant Director, Childrens Social Care and Early Intervention – Wokingham Borough Council
• Head of Commercial Law – Brighton and Hove City Council
• Director of Business, Development and Growth – Chorley Council
• Head of Finance – Burnley City Council
• Chief Accountant – Epsom and Ewell Borough Council
• IT Manager – Maldon District Council
• Group Manager, Highways, Traffic and Parking – London Borough of Havering

The list goes on…

After another great year, we’re excited to see what 2017 holds. If you have a senior role and would be interested in hearing how SmartSearch can help you find exactly the right candidate, then be sure to get in touch.

White Papers

In January 2016, we set ourselves a challenge: we wanted to take on some the prevalent challenges in public sector recruitment by creating a set of white papers. We feel very lucky to have a loyal candidate base and a large amount of public sector recruitment knowledge and we felt it was only right to share this.

The Changing Face of Recruitment’ highlighted the way that recruitment has transformed in recent years and how employers can adapt to stay competitive and relevant.

Senior Recruitment: A whole new ball game’ focuses on the specific challenges that plague those looking to recruit to managerial and executive positions. With effective leadership potentially more crucial than ever in today’s public sector, it has never been more important to ensure you have the right person at the helm.

Finally, ‘A Fresh Approach to Teacher Recruitment’ offers an insight into how schools, academies, trusts and local authorities can address the national shortage of teachers. With this being keenly felt nationwide, competition for new talent is greater than ever and this publication summarises a new approach.

Being the sociable bunch that we are, we love taking part in events. Whether simply attending, exhibiting or hosting ourselves, we enjoy being able to meet a large number of our clients to discuss all manner of things around public sector recruitment.

Amongst our favourite events this year have been our breakfast round table events hosted in partnership with the In-house Recruitment Network. These events involve around 30+ HR professional coming together to discuss key topics and share knowledge and advice in lively round table discussions. The breakfast events we hosted this year covered general public sector recruitment, senior recruitment and education and featured guest speakers Charlotte Johns from Transport for London, Nichola Smith from Medway Council and Caroline Nugent from OneSource. We look forward to hosting more in 2017.

As a platinum sponsor of the PPMA, we attended and spoke at a number of events across the country. Having conducted two significant research projects on graduate recruitment and candidates’ use of social media in their job search, we wanted to share our findings. Having developed a fantastic relationship with the PPMA, it was a great experience to have the opportunity to share our knowledge and be part of some fantastic discussions.

Other events we attended included HR in Housing, LGA conference and many more. With plenty more events planned for 2017, we look forward to the next opportunity to meet and catch up with you all.

ATS Developments – Tasks

We understand that, in today’s world, the pace or recruitment can be frantic. It’s all too easy to spend months recruiting to a single role to let those hard-won candidates slip away in the process.

A few weeks ago we launched our new Tasks module. Tasks was born off the back of clients wanting to track time-to-hire and flag up any potential blocks. It’s designed to help you keep recruitment moving, with a combination of on-screen and email alerts to make sure your team is aware of their priorities. Best of all, it’s simple to set up and start using, with no complex workflow rules or rigid requirements. Get in touch with us and get started with Tasks today!

2016 marked another big win at the PPMA awards for us. For the third year in a row, we were thrilled to win the award for Recruitment Campaign of the Year for our work with Hackney Homes. This campaign saw us help recruit to their innovative development programme. Find out more about the campaign here.

We were also delighted to be shortlisted amongst some industry heavyweights in the HR Supplier Partnership category at this year’s Personnel Today awards. This shortlisting marked the achievements of our ongoing work with Medway Council. Perhaps unsurprisingly, due to the calibre of the competition, we weren’t successful on the night but it was still an honour to be shortlisted.

As touched on in our ‘White Papers’ section, we have been placing a great deal of focus on helping organisations tackle a national shortage of teachers.

Working closely with a wide range of educational establishments, we are looking to promote an approach that addresses each stage of the process and helps you to become proactive in your recruitment. Watch our new video below.

New Additions

Finally, as we continue to enjoy a huge amount of success, we are delighted that our organisation continues to grow. A host of new faces have further brightened Jobsgopublic HQ and are having a massive impact.

This year, our newest additions are:
• Adele, Stevie, Bronwen, Simon and Anisa (Client Partnerships)
• Kyle (HR & Finance)
• Sven (Production & Support)

So that was 2016 in a (rather large) nutshell. If the last 12 months is anything to go by, the next 12 are going to be very exciting!

All that’s left is to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! See you in 2017!
