Last week we had the privilege of attending one of The Tree Council’s Partner Planting Days in honour of National Tree Week. The team donned our waterproof boots and warmest gardening gear and headed off to the South Downs in Hampshire for a day of exciting activities.
In addition to planting lots of new trees, we learnt some great stuff about protecting the local wildlife. We created dead hedges, regenerated hedgerows for the local dormice and put down mulch and biodegradable tree splints to protect the saplings from grazing deer.

What is National Tree Week?
This year’s National Tree Week took place between November 26 and December 4 and is the UK’s largest tree celebration. The Tree Council and its partners use this week to promote the celebration of trees and bring together people across the whole country to herald the beginning of the tree planting season.
This winter, The Tree Council aims to raise £20,000 for their Orchards for Schools programme, which encourages schools to get involved in planting and caring for wildlife in their communities. You can learn more about this programme and the fundraiser on The Tree Council website.
